The Lych Gate at the entrance to St John's - we have all forgotten it was built as a First World War Memorial. And when did those handsome railings go - was it during the Second War, when there was a drive to recycle metal for munitions?

We think this is a view of the very grand celebrations at Wilton House for the 300th anniversary of George Herbert's death in 1933. Does anyone remember these?

The story goes that this photo was taken in 1920-21 by a former soldier from the Great War, who made a living travelling the country photographing houses and selling the picture to the owners (cameras were pretty rare in those days). This was The Parish Room in 1921 - now 84-86 Lower Road.
